The former president of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, will be heading to Hay-on-Wye this May, along with a sizable chunk of the world's top intellectual talent.
The guests and speakers at the ten-day Guardian Hay Festival of Literature and Arts include prominent writers, economists, scientists and ex-leaders.
Peter Florence, OBE, who founded the festival with his father Norman Florence in 1988, told inthenews.co.uk why it was important to have the former Pakistani president at the event: "We're based between the military communities in Hereford and Brecon. Conflict resolution is a real and vital issue here.
"We've always been interested in both the powerbrokers and the analysts of international affairs and it's good to get beyond the US/UK experience after Carter, Clinton, Perle and Bolton.
"Pakistan is the most volatile state in the East-West axis, so naturally we're thrilled that he's coming to speak.
This year the Hay festival will be held between May 27th and June 6th and is expected to draw more than 100,000 people.
Other heavyweight guests this year include: British playwright Tom Stoppard; Christopher Hitchens; Israeli Ambassador to the UK, Ron Prosor; Pakistani poet and writer, Fatima Bhutto; writer Bill Bryson and leading novelists including Martin Amis and Zadie Smith.
Geraldine O'Gara, an inner city GP, who has attended the festival with a group of friends for the last ten years said: "I feel as if I am coming up for air when I go to Hay. It refreshes the spirit in a way that few other gatherings can match."
