The consistent efforts of fighting for justice are interpreted as revenge by others. They miss the point all together. One can only seek revenge for something that is replaceable. This relation is not. Revenge won’t be bringing back the one for whose return the awaiting eyes can die for. Persistent fight for justice is to save others from going through the same pain. To put an end to this madness, that can change the course of lives drastically.

For those who think time heals all are delusional. As some things time can’t heal. It can’t bring back people, moments spent with them & most of all the fact that they are not present in your future. Therefore the concept of forgetting with time won’t work. There is no balm which can heal such wounds. The only thing that can come closest to the idea of healing is if the personal struggle can save others from similar ends.

Obviously freedom of the people on the right side of things is a throne in the side of those in power for so obvious reasons. So to be safe they are kept behind bars so that the machinery of power is not affected. But who is actually afraid of this confinement, those put away wrongly or those claiming freedom?

The ultimate freedom belongs to justice after all. Because even while being free the wrong doers are confined & tortured by their deep inside conscious & they spend their freedom trying to clam these feelings down. In the end justice will always take its course & the truth will surface in front of everybody. As the saying goes, “You can fool some of the people all of the time & all of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all of the people, all of the time.

Campaign For Justice for Mir Murtaza Bhutto- June

They say neither evolution nor revolution take place in one day, both of them require long stretches of time. With this law the concept of patience comes for free. Those aiming for a revolution should make patience part for their nature. This is not just needed for attaining the goal of revolution but for the attaining it in the right manner.

A hasty revolutionary path leads to the wrong results, the wrong kind of compromises & once this cycle starts there is no turning back. Without patience the struggle goes down the drain, the sacrifices wasted, the blood traded. And most of all to bear all the pain which comes to those who have chosen this path, they need to hold on to patience.

However, patience does not mean silence in the face of injustice, corruption & everything that the people have been fighting for. When the limits are crossed it is a call for action. People blamed them for all the wrong that happened & that will happen but they did what was needed to be done.

Looking back they have nothing to be ashamed of.

Women’s Day

Today the world marks the Women’s day, there will be different ceremonies in accordance with the theme & then the day will come to an end. The next day everything will be back as usual. I am not anti day celebrations, for me they stand as the reflective days on which you check your progress & set further goals. Unfortunately, this is not happening now. Such days are only serving as society events now. Which is quite sad.

Women aren’t considered equals anywhere around the globe. This discrimination shows itself in one form or another even in the most developed countries self proclaiming to be champions of freedom & every socio-economic class. We tend to associate this discrimination to lack of education (true to some extent) but I guess that is because these are the cases slammed in our faces. No one gets to see issues from the so called more educated class because they have a reputation to look after. Hypocrisy, at its best. Margaret Heffernan in her book “The Naked Truth” highlights the lives of professional women in a very nice & blunt manner.

Being part of a blog which was created for honoring the work of a woman we consider remarkable & is run by women could not possibly miss this day. Here I present my reasons of supporting Fatima Bhutto. None of them are the one’s even remotely associated to her blood line. Though I have been in arguments where people have mastered the art of connecting each & every reason to that very subject. The major one is that her type are not that common specially in our region & even if they are they don’t get their due. Her stance of rejecting the very things that others deem as their birth right is something which is being ignored according to my view point.


Her stand for the justice for her father & her optimism against all odds show her real strength, which according to some relies in her last name. Wrong again me thinks because in a region where there is great emphasis on family names & actually they do wonders for you if you want, Fatima is overly scrutinized for it. People most of the time forget to even give an objective look at her work. Not to side line the fact that she is not interested in presenting herself in two versions, one for the locals & the other as to who she is. Supporting & writing about issues considered untouchable in our double standard society is something that makes me respect her even if I don’t agree with her stance at some point.


Another important thing that we (Karishma & I) have lately come to admire about Fatima Bhutto is her immense patience & ability to ignore the stuff which makes you wonder that when common sense let alone intelligence was being distributed by the Almighty some people forgot to pick up their share before landing on planet earth.

In honour of an inspiring woman...

What would you do? If you had the power to rule over your nation, because of the family you belong to. What would you do? If you could entrench your name, in the history textbooks of the word. What would you do? If you were told by virtue of your surname alone you can be a Prime Minister? What would you do? Most of us would just do what so many others in history have done! Grab the option without a moment’s hesitation. After all you would reason it is my legacy, I need to honour it...

But here is a woman (Fatima Bhutto in case you are confused), who has refused to take the easy route and has not chosen to hide behind that powerful surname of hers. She has chosen to take her own path, one which only the very brave might consider and one which only the very foolish might criticize. Her honesty, integrity and sense of self are the sole items she chose to inherit as her legacy. The rest she has decided to earn herself. Who would not be inspired by such a young woman? I certainly am. This blog was created, so that more people whether young or old, could be acquainted with this very charming, intelligent and smart young lady.

Today on the eve of women’s day –sadly we live in times, where we need days to honour another gender- in a region that has been plagued with issues regarding various social biases, evils and discrimination against women, a voice as articulate and thought provoking as hers can only help lift the progress of this region. Here is a voice that teaches you not by theory but by practice as to how each one of us by reason of our own ability can set the motion of change in action. How we can be the change we want to so desperately see.


Here is our salute to this upcoming global leader, a talented writer, passionate activist, inspiring journalist, a dedicated daughter, a caring sister, a loyal friend, a proud Pakistani, a responsible world citizen and a worthy inspiration and beneath it all just a simple, humble human being like you and me…

Equality does not mean doing something better than the opposite gender. Equality means doing something as equals with the opposite gender. It means every little girl child gets the education she deserves. It means every girl and every woman has the right to equal nutrition and health care.It means every woman can love who she wants to. It means every woman chooses who she wants to marry and at the legal age accepted. It means every woman gets to choose what role she wants to play in this play of life. It means every woman can practice the religion she chooses to. It means every woman not be demonized because she does not cry. It means every woman has the right to choose motherhood when she so desires. It means every woman has the right to work if she so desires. It means every woman need not conform to all the standards and rules that men have coded for her. It means that she is free of all the labels…

That is the dream, hopefully someday that will no longer be a dream. Most of us are lucky to be who we are. Let us through our efforts, through our freedom, through our education, through our opportunities help fight for and improve the lives of those women for whom this all is just a beautiful dream. We need to tell the little girls of our world, you can dream, because your dreams can turn into reality. Here is to all my fellow women out there, embrace who you are, don’t try to shun away your positives because the majority that are in power are successful without them. Be successful because of them.

Response to the Hater

For the past few days I have been at the receiving end of your continuous harassment. I am clueless as to what kind of explanation is it that you seek from me? Because honestly I cannot figure out what is bothering you so much? By changing ids and continuously spamming me with your sick outlook I doubt you would achieve much. However I don’t want you continuously clogging the feed of this blog with your juvenile attempts at trying to create hate and divide (will admit though your diatribe against Gandhiji today has been partly responsible for this response)…


Feel free to think what you think about India, Indians, my parents, my religion. I have grown up in a democracy all my life; I have been given the right and the freedom to express my personal views no matter what they were. You can do so too. I defend your right to be able to express it. But also remember when you have a right, it must not be abused for when it is done that is when the right gets lost. Do know though that I don’t hold the same myopic views about Pakistan, Pakistanis, Islam or any other attribute related to your identity. I have too much love and respect for my friends who revere these aspects of their individuality! I’ve been taught that if I end up disrespecting them, it is akin to disrespecting my own. Hope someday you can realize it too, that the more you respect others the more the world will respect you.


I do not want to justify why I am part of this site or why I write what I do. I never claimed to be an award winning activist or a bestselling author here. Just like you, I am another humble human being in this world we live in. An ordinary citizen of India who works as hard as you and who lives as honestly as you (probably) do. My motives to be part of this project from day one, has solely been driven by the fact that I empathize with those 8 families who lost a loved one and who deserve JUSTICE. Their fight has been ongoing for the past 14 years and I presumed as a citizen of Pakistan you too would understand the wrong that has been done. If you don’t it is perfectly understandable (fanatics are made not born yeah) but please don’t belittle anyone else for trying to keep their own conscience alive. The team for a moment does not harbor any misconceptions that our words (or retarded poetry as you called it) will pressurize the judiciary of Pakistan to give a fair verdict. However this is our way of expressing solidarity with Fatima Bhutto and the rest of the families involved in this fight for justice. May I ask you what is wrong with that?


As far as your point about Ms. Fatima Bhutto spreading lies about XYZ or being a tool in the hands of the US, as much as I respect that you are entitled to your own opinions, I would like to state ‘That is what can be deemed as retarded.’ You need to read her columns to realize how critical she has been of the US policies and of everything else going around in Pakistan that is unethical or against the best interest of the Pakistanis. And with regards to her accusing anybody to have played a role in the murder of her father, I do believe she has enough proof and valid reasons for doing so. She has every right to demand for a free and fair justice system to prevail in Pakistan and if I were you I would support her too. If you fanatically support XYZ or a party, it in no way means that they are innocent or aren’t party to anything criminal! The case is still being fought in the legal courts of Pakistan; let us leave it at that. We have not approached your court of law. When we do; you are always welcome to deem the guilty innocent and the innocent guilty…


I don’t remember anyone of us ever raking the issue of Fake v/s Real Bhutto. Unfortunately when certain people opt for hyphenating their surname with a Bhutto (only when the need to stake the claim for power arose) that will obviously lead to a ripple effect. If you start the spark, you run the risk of burning in the same fire and that is what you see happening. Still I would reiterate this fact that never once has Ms. Ghinwa Bhutto or Ms. Fatima Bhutto claimed they are the real Bhutto’s of Pakistan. Bhuttoism isn’t a fashion fad. So I suggest you leave this insecurity of yours. If you really believe in your leadership and its capability you have nothing to worry. Stop resorting to such cheap gimmicks…


However there is one thing I request of you. Please stop hating on a young man who hasn’t done anything to you or to your party or to any XYZ. Just because he happens to be born into a situation which makes you insecure, do not wish ill on him he isn’t responsible for what Fatima Bhutto writes or what this site is about. When he comes out in the public arena with his views, his works, his message feel free to critique him then. Right now he is going about living his own life, being a responsible civil human being, educating himself, spreading awareness about our environment, respecting others and the world around him. May be those are the virtues that you and the party you support need to imbibe from that young man.


I suggest you do some soul searching of your own before you ask the family of Mir Murtaza Bhutto to do the same. If nothing else at least you can find something constructive to do with your time, rather than waste it spamming me. For frankly I don’t care what you think about my mental well being, my sexual orientation, my patriotism, my leaders, my parents character and the motives of my being part of this team. You are too inconsequential to my life and I hope that I will be to yours too..

While the above video, which is part of this campaign seems to be a comical take on what the ground situation is, by no means is it trivializing the emotions associated with the project. Sometimes in life one requires to take the refuge of satire to express the frustration of the helplessness that reality smothers you with. It however does not in any way dilute the serious message and the sincere plea we are making to you to join this fight – a fight not for anyone else but for your own freedom which gets threatened if someone else’s does..

We now live in a world where what you don’t do, weighs more on the outcome of our world rather than what we actively do! Unfortunately most of us succumb to the ‘What difference will I make’. ‘What difference will my vote make’? ‘What difference will my voice make’? ‘What difference will my stance make?’

‘I am just ONE’

Helen Keller perhaps had heard it too, when she said ‘I am only one, But still I am one. I cannot do everything but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything will not refuse to do the something that I can do’

It is up to you, do you want to be just another ONE who did nothing or be SomeONE who decided to not just do NOThing…

Write to your local papers and ask them to cover the case, write to the editor of your local paper and press for justice to be delivered, see to it that the media covers the news and keeps it alive in the conscience of the nation, make others aware of the facts and the ground realities of this case, sign petitions, make your voice be heard and counted someway somehow. You owe this to your nation and to your own freedom…


Won’t Forget, Will Not Let Others Either…

Human psyche is quite complicated. On one hand we drastically underestimate the potential of an individual while at the same time we are looking out for that very single individual who is supposed to have the key to the solutions of all our problems. This contrast amazes me. The stance of the sociologist who are focused on the collective powers & don’t give much weight to individuals have in my view point helped us satisfy our sleeping conscious. After all isn’t it too easy to quote as reference the life long research of such individuals, resultant of which makes us feel as the most powerless beings entangled in the web of this cruel society. But isn’t the presence of aliens on our planet part of the numerous conspiracy theories that we love to indulge in? If so, then that means that this society is a product of these very powerless beings, entangled in the web of their own creation.

Sorry for busting the bubble, but the bitter reality is that no one is going to come from outside to help us out of this web. This has to be done by individuals. Institutes will reflect the core values of the individuals it comprises. And the institution under consideration here resides at the heart of every other. Absence of justice results in the demise of societies. You’ll be agreeing to this however, you’ll also be adding that as this case is not part of your society so why bother?

Nobody needs a reminder that we live in a very interconnected world, we can’t afford to remain insensitive to such acts of injustice no matter where they take place because in some way or other the results will have an effect on our lives & those we hold close to our hearts. Let’s shun our reluctance & act as responsible individuals so that this very attitude gets incorporated in our system.

Last year the Club had initiated a Justice Campaign over a period of 7 days, in solidarity with the call made my PPP(Sb) Chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto. When we committed for this cause, to fight till Fatima Bhutto gets justice for her father, Mir Murtaza Bhutto, we meant to be part of this struggle till victory was ours...

In keeping with the ideology behind that week, we shall continue to express our support to Fatima Bhutto, her family and the rest of the families on the 20th of every month over 2010 too. Why should a campaign end only because considerable amount of time has passed, since that ridiculous judgment passed on the 5th of December 2009. This is how we risk losing support and justice for a cause. Our memory fails to remind us that those that committed these heinous acts are still in power.

What can you do, you ask? For starters 'NEVER FORGET'. This is the name of our campaign 'Will Not Forget-Not Let Others Either' Do your bit, keep yourself updated on the details of this case, write to your local newspaper and remind them they need to cover this story for you, sign petitions, speak about this to family/friends that are ignorant about this, decide that in the next elections you will not vote a party of criminals and those that do not uphold the justice of 7 families, someday it might be yours too. Do your bit for another fellow citizen/human being. Preserve Justice in this World, it is the best legacy you can leave for your children....
